Indiana mini pigs are hand selected for specific traits that we want to see passed down through generations. Above everything else, we hold their temperaments and personalities to the highest standard. We also choose our breeding stock based on other important factors such as size, conformation, and color. We not only want our pigs to be built to last, but also nice to look at.
Being from northern Indiana, it is important that our pigs are hardy to withstand the hot, sunny summers and frigid, snowy winters that we have grown accustomed to.
While our pigs are many things, there are some things they are not.
Indiana mini pigs are not...
Teacup pigs! Teacup, pixie, micro, dandy, etc. are deemed "marketing terms". There is no such thing as a healthy 20 lb. mature pig. Many unethical breeders (aka greeders) will try to convince you that their pigs will stay tiny by breeding immature and underage parents. This is not only unhealthy, it is just plain wrong!
Full size farm pigs! As miniature pigs have increased in popularity, many people have tried to jump on the breeding bandwagon and sell anything they can to make a quick buck. This includes tricking you into buying young farm hogs. Many people will bash all mini pigs and say that they will all grow to be 300+ lb. This is simply not true. We welcome, and even encourage, farm visits. We want you to be 100% confident before you buy a pig from us or anyone else. We are always glad to share our pig experience with you!
Dogs! Pigs are different from dogs. We find them to be cleaner and easier to teach. But they can also be much more stubborn and require more patience. Pigs can be territorial (especially over their beds). They can make great alarm clocks and even better bulldozers.
A toy to play with when you feel like it! Pigs need lots of enrichment. Bored pigs become destructive pigs. They can make fabulous inside pets with proper training, but they also require space to play and root outside. They love to learn new tricks and play with toys. They can also become lonely, so they need to spend time with you.
